Sometimes the symptoms of the disorder improve with the passage of time, but in several cases, the sufferer never fully gains control of their capacities. As a matter of fact, autism has been known to persist in its full-blown state all the way into adulthood and beyond without any kind of improvement.

The severe symptoms that the child suffers from are indeed relentless, and are bound to stay with the patient for as long as they live. There are instances in which the patient suffers from other diseases on the autism-spectrum that can be referred to as high functioning autism, in which the patient gradually improves and some of the suffering symptoms repeal in some measure as age and maturity comes, but this is largely limited to only a few special cases.

Autism disorder, also called autistic disorder or simply autism, is not a disease but rather a developmental disability affecting the brain that usually always manifests itself by the age of three. Autism is considered to be a pervasive developmental disorder (PDD) and it is estimated that some form of the condition affects as many as six to eight of every 1,000 children today. There is no one set of symptoms or behaviors typical of all people with autism as the condition can cause a vast spectrum of symptoms ranging from the mild to the severe.
